Backgammon Bearing In

When a player is bringing his checkers to his home board, in preparation for bearing them off, he should follow this general principle: don't waste pips. This means simply that he should always try to bring the men in as quickly as possible.

He should bring the man on the 12 point in to the 6 point; he should not make the mistake of bringing the man on the 8 point to the 3 point just because there is no man there. If a player always brings his men to the 6, 5, or 4 points when possible, and to the 3, 2, or 1 point when necessary, he will be about as efficient as he can be.
